Hello and Welcome!
In the 40 years that I have had the privilege of working with families, couples, individuals and children, each therapeutic relationship has left an indelible imprint on my life. Additionally there have been three decisions I made during my career that have furthered my confidence and competence.
The first was to train as a Family Systems therapist.
That course of action provided me with a strong foundation in understanding the complexity and power of the multi-generational stories that define my client’s lives, struggles and symptoms. As a result, I am dedicated to working with my clients to create a genogram of their family relationships--- a genogram defined as emotional connections, medical histories, behavioral patterns and significant life events. Basically, it’s a family tree within a psychological and medical context—-information that guides me in truly getting to know my clients and identifying patterns of connection that influence their quality of life.
The second decision was to dive into the world of Neurofeedback technology.
That choice has enabled me to understand the complexity of the brain-body health connection and offer my clients a non-pharmaceutical approach to symptom relief known as neurofeedback.
Neurofeedback applies a gentle current to the brain for very short periods of time. Those mild stimulations enable the brain to move from dysregulation to homeostasis-- more simply explained--- from a stressed and scattered brain to one that is balanced and steady. As those chaotic symptoms begin to resolve, clients are able to begin making healthy decisions for themselves.
The third, and most recent decision, was training in the Sarno-Sachs Pain Recovery Process, a program advanced by psychotherapist and mind/body medicine expert, Nicole Sachs. In studying Nicole’s Mind Your Body Book and taking part in her “Mind Your Body” Training Program,
Though this training, I have become deeply aware of the damage that can be done to both the mind and body when people deny and suppress expressions of their emotions. I have also learned ways that my clients can gradually resolve such mind and body damage by helping them express their emotions through the process of Nicole’s “Journal Speak” and meditation.
After four decades of working with extraordinarily brave clients, I now fully understand that each person’s awareness of their body/brain connection is integral to the resolution of their mental health challenges. That awareness continually inspires me to embrace advanced therapy treatments and counseling techniques—-my own and those of others I have discovered and respect.
I look forward to introducing you to the many resources I can offer that can help you in your journey to wellness.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy
