Up to 20% of women experience postpartum depression following childbirth.
Symptoms include:
Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness
Angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters
Anxiety, agitation or restlessness
Changes in appetite
Loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities
Feelings of worthlessness or guilt, fixating on past failures or blaming yourself for things that aren’t your responsibility
Trouble bonding with your baby
Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby
“I let myself slip through the cracks. I was busy just trying to survive and be the best Mom I could. It took a lot of courage to admit to myself that there was a problem. I felt so ashamed and guilty. I was afraid to tell anyone, even my husband, because I thought I would be judged.” - client
